In most countries, there is a clear distinction between the peasants and the aristocracy.

Generally, you are only born into aristocracy. There are only a limited number of ways to join the aristocracy from being a peasant. Usually you either become a knight or you become incredibly rich and somehow evade taxation (adventurer alert).
